4rd day: Medieval Liguria on Cervo and Albenga traces
Breakfast and departure for Cervo and Albenga.
Cervo, a suggestive borgo marinaro overlooking the sea, with its imposing Corallini church, in Baroque style, is rightly considered among the most beautiful Italian bourg. One of the numerous historic centres in the Western Ligurian coast well preserved and animated both by its inhabitants and by many exciting activities and events here organised. The Corallini church stands as a ship setting up its sails, located on a hill overlooking the sea, visible from the coast that it seems to touch it, reference point for sea travellers since its foundation. On the parvis, the famous yearly Chamber Music Festival takes place during the summer, in July or August, changing the bourg in a place enchanted by the notes and symphonies of the most important concertisti of the international classic music.
Lastly, transfer to Albenga and visit to the historic city centre.
Lunch.
The medieval city centre, with its towers and the Roman museum, is among the best preserved in Western Liguria still visible today. Albenga, as Ventimiglia and Vado, is one of the three Roman cities in Italian Riviera, almost ancient capital of the Ingauni Ligures tribe, that holds in the Roman Naval Museum more than 1.000 (wine) amphoras, tools, supplies and implements dating back to the 1st century b. C. whose origins are linked with the discovery of the wreck of a Roman cargo ship (Na-ve Oneraria), sunk off the coast of Albenga.
The Battistero (Baptistery) is also very interesting, one of the ancient Chistian era testimonies in Liguria. Do not forget the Cathedral, the Palazzo Vescovile and the Piazzetta dei Leoni (square): all monuments and urbanistic buildings that have made the preciousness of this site. Let’s admire the ancient bell towers and civic towers (symbol of the Ingaun citadel), all of which emphasise the historic centre design.
